Apostolic: Devotion
Devoted to what matters
Have you ever noticed how easy it is to get devoted to things that don’t really matter?
It’s natural. We devote ourselves to a show, a sports team, a hobby — we spend time, energy, and passion on it without even thinking.
The early church in Acts was just as passionate — but their devotion wasn’t about trends or entertainment. It was about prayer and the Word of God.
In Acts 6:4, the Apostles said, “But we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word.”
They knew that if they stayed connected to God, everything else would fall into place. And it did — the Bible says the Word of God spread, and the number of believers multiplied greatly.
Here’s the big truth:
What you devote yourself to shapes who you become.
When you make prayer and Scripture your daily habits, you’re not just checking a box — you’re becoming someone God can move through. Your heart becomes stronger. Your mind becomes clearer. Your life becomes a light to others.
This week, try this:
· Set a 15 to 20 minute “quiet time” each day.
· Pick one verse to memorize.
· Talk to God like He’s right there — because He is.
You don’t have to be perfect — you just have to be devoted.
God isn’t looking for the most polished. He’s looking for the most available.
